A delicate opaline glass sphere, precariously balanced on a metal structure—this is the essence of IC Light by Flos, the iconic lamp collection now celebrating its 10th anniversary. Back in 2014, Flos launched a complete range of pendants, wall lights, floor lamps, and outdoor solutions designed by Michael Anastassiades, the Anglo-Cypriot designer who was then an emerging talent and is now one of the world’s most acclaimed designers.
Known for his minimalistic and sometimes raw style, Anastassiades reflects: «Since its launch in 2014, the IC Collection was perceived as an archetype. A design that it’s hard to place in a specific time. A lamp that exists today but you know will be contemporary tomorrow and forever. This perception was key to its success which I believe owes a lot to the instant familiarity feeling that the collection exudes: after all, spheres have always existed, brass is an ancient material, and balance is an intriguing concept».
IC Light by Flos: A Timeless Lamp
«From a design perspective, I believe that familiarity is at the basis of the appreciation that IC has been enjoying», says Michael Anastassiades. «There is nothing more recognizable than a sphere and a straight line. While the somewhat mysterious balancing act, that engages both, captures a moment of stillness within a hypothetical movement that anyone can relate to».
Instantly becoming a classic, the IC Light now features 14 catalog variations. Alongside the well-known brass finish, there are also contemporary black and chrome versions.
10 Years of Michael Anastassiades Celebrated in 24K Gold
In celebration of its anniversary, Flos, in collaboration with Michael Anastassiades, has presented an exclusive and refined edition of the IC Light. Presented at the recent Fuorisalone, the IC 10th Anniversary edition is a limited series featuring a 24K gold-plated metal structure. Every piece is numbered and personally signed by the designer, accompanied by an identity card utilising NFC technology. The gold edition has been meticulously crafted across three existing models in the collection: the T1 Low (small table lamp), the F1 (small floor lamp), and the S2 (large pendant.
Expanding the IC Light Family by Flos
The gold finish will also be available on the three pieces of IC Light’s family extension. The floor lamp, table lamp, and chandelier are now available in an enlarged version featuring a 45 cm diameter sphere, specifically designed for public spaces and contract environments.
