Highlights

Floor lamps effortlessly illuminate any space. Their unique feature? The flexibility to relocate them during furniture rearrangements or comprehensive makeovers. They’re perfect as reading lights and ambience enhancers. Arc-style lamps can even replace traditional central fixtures like chandeliers.

In 2023, floor lamps blend technological advancements with timeless designs. Be it classic shaded lamps or those with a ’70s flair, their unique shapes double as decorative elements, even when off.

Timeless Meets Contemporary: The New Wave of Floor Lamps

The “MS Series” by Fritz Hansen captivates. This series seamlessly integrates with the brand’s “NordicCollection. Its metallic structure and shade echo Arne Jacobsen’s designs but with elongated proportions for a contemporary touch. Philippe Starck reimagines the traditional bulb-shade design for Kartell‘s Angelo Stone, where an LED source beneath the shade transforms it into a reflector. Concluding, Vibia’s Dama impresses with a minimalist shade that appears to float.

Arc Floor Lamps: Merging Elegance and Function

Foscarini‘s renowned Twiggy, trendsetting since 2006, introduces classy Burgundy shades and a Rosewood diffuser. The iconic “Bul-Bo”, conceived by Gabetti Isola and illuminated by Axolight, unveils its XL version, preserving its timeless, bold essence.

When Floor Lamps Become Art

Ingo Maurer‘s poetic artistry continues. His team advances his vision with “Nuunu”, featuring a light source at its base and tall gold-plated paper elements enhancing reflections. In contrast, Mario Cucinella‘s Trilix for Artemide offers a streamlined design, where three metallic elements support an LED ring. Masiero‘s Ebe concludes this section, exuding art deco charm with its onyx base and metallic wire mesh shade.

Designed mainly for businesses, this lamp suits homes too. It revived ’70s floor lamps with spherical diffusers. Its modernity is evident in the lemon-yellow hue and its asymmetric component arrangement. Bellucci Mazzone Progetti is the brains behind this.

2. Bul-Bo XL - Axolight

Gabetti Isola originally designed this for Olivetti‘s residential hub in Ivrea, Turin, in the early ’70s. The Veneto brand reintroduced it in 2021. Now a larger floor model, its emblematic design remains, enriched by adjustments for enhanced illumination.
